Jennifer Bennett LLB—Partner
As Head of the Social Housing Department, Jennifer Bennett has particular responsibility for the Firm's provision of legal services to RSLs. Having worked in Housing Association Law for over 20 years, her particular interests lie in promoting new housing initiatives.
She is widely known in the profession for her work with Housing Associations and in the authoritative Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and Legal 500.
She has particular expertise in managing Leasehold schemes and areas such as leasehold extensions, service charges, Section 20 consultation, major repairs and improvements.
She provides regular training for Housing Officers and Board Members and her recent training programmes include:-
- Service Charge in tenanted and leasehold stock—a guide for RSLs
- ‘The Effective Board Member’ - the legal obligations
- Leasehold Management;
- Board Members Governance.
She has extensive experience of team based project management of large scale Housing Association transactions including consolidation of loans, securitisation of rent schemes and property support for Transfers of Engagement.
Reflecting the Firm’s commitment to the RSL sector, a large part of her time is spent in managing the delivery of the service and the relationship with the RSL client. Her firm belief is that a Senior Partner must be available to the Executive of the RSL client to ensure a consistent quality of service and a resource for the RSL Executives to consider strategic issues and matters outside the routine transaction.
She is retained by the majority of all major RSL lenders and provides security advice as a regular part of her practice.
Jennifer has served as a non-executive director of a major acute NHS Hospital Trust with particular responsibility in the PFI Project of a new build General Hospital in Portsmouth. Combining both her interests in social housing and her directorship role, she has given a presentation on "Housing Associations and NHS Residential Stock" to a Hospital Trust. She has also served as a Governor of a local independent girls' school and as such a director of a company with charitable status.
