There are a number of organisations that can either assist you in complaint or who will provide useful information:-
Community Health Council (CHC)
There is a CHC in your local area that can assist you through the NHS Complaints Procedure. If required, a representative of the CHC will attend a meeting with you, your hospital or GP. The CHC will also help you to obtain access to your medical records.
General Medical Council (GMC)
You can complain to the GMC about your doctor. The Council has the power to investigate Clinical Negligence matters and can remove a doctor from the medical register.
The GMC is located at 44 Hallam Street, London W1N 6AE. Tel: 0171 580 7642.
United Kingdom Central Council of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (UKCC)
The UKCC is the statutory body that handles complaints against nurses, midwives and health visitors. They have produced a brochure that outlines how to complain about anyone from one of these professions.
It is best to write to the UKCC. Their address is 23 Portland Place, London W1S.
