Dragon Boat support for Headway Portsmouth

Coffin Mew Solicitors once again competed in the Dragon Boat festival hosted by Portsmouth Rotary at their 'home ground' of 1000 Lakeside North Harbour Portsmouth on Sunday 20th May.  The team “Coffin Crewed All Over” took part in three heat races to see if they could this year make it to the finals in support of Headway Portsmouth.

Despite improving course run times repeatedly from 1 minute 20 seconds to 1 minute 12 seconds, it would have taken another 3 to 4 races to get the crew up to the speed needed to be in the finals.  As in the races crewed last year, Coffin Mew was supporting Headway Portsmouth, a local charity that assists the victims of acquired brain injury with cognitive rehabilitation courses.

Doug Miller, Team Leader of the Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury team captained the crew. Doug said: “Despite our best efforts, we just couldn’t paddle any harder - despite a valiant crew!  In the end, however, Headway is the real winner because we raised some well needed funds.”

Doug Miller and Gemma Parker from the Coffin Mew team are directors of the charity and both know all too well the problems faced by charities such as Headway who are suffering from loss of government support.

Next year Doug hopes to make a bigger splash with another team and hopefully raise yet more funds for the Rotary Charities and Headway Portsmouth.
